Workshop Description
Lifting the lid on some of the mind-boggling facts and figures of the natural world, Wild About Maths introduces your pupils to fictional TV presenter Hilde Beest. Hilde has been filming in the wild but has been stranded after being separated from the filming crew! That’s where you and your school come in.
Your visitor for the the day will share with the pupils the call for help from Hilde Beest via a short video Hilde has managed to film on her phone.
Can your pupils show the teamwork of lions, the number agility of chimpanzees (chimps can do fractions – who knew?), the geometrical skills of desert ants, and the resilience of hippopotami? Because that’s what’s needed to solve the problems facing The Wildebeest and get them back to the studios before Wild About Maths goes live!

What is the format of the day?
We will work with you to plan a timetable for the workshops, to suit the number of classes you would like to include – and around the specific timings of your school day. There is a short follow-up activity to be undertaken back in the classrooms which we provide for class teachers, as a PowerPoint. The outcomes of these are shared in a closing assembly, so that the result of the overall challenge can be revealed. A typical timetable looks like this:
