Family Friendly Workshops
We’ve taken some of our most popular schools workshops and adapted them so they can be delivered in libraries, festivals and well – pretty much anywhere!

Fun, creative, educational workshops
Looking for fun, creative, educational workshops for all of the family to take part in this summer? Then take a look at what we have on offer …
We’ve loved engaging with families at Camp Bestival, Also Festival, Eureka Discovery + Centre, with Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for Shakespeare Week, Libraries and Museums as well as in Summer Schools across the UK!
Children of all ages can take part and each workshop promises to be active, inspiring and allow for young people’s creativity to flow.

Our workshops are characterised by:
A coherent approach that allows us to make concrete connections with the building/setting we’re in – and its history and/or relevant collections.
A high level of engagement – we recognise that we have probably no more than thirty seconds to secure “buy in”.
The use of a range of immersive techniques (including drama and games) to cement prior learning, clarify difficult concepts, introduce new content and extend thinking.
Introducing participants to noteworthy people associated with the workshop area – with a very deliberate and conscious focus on diversity.
When working in family settings, ensuring content and approaches are accessible to a wide age range – and actively promoting families working together (rather than children actively participating and adults passively watching).
Workshop Options
Many of our school workshops can be adapted for family workshops, including Literacy, Maths and History – so get in touch to see how we could plan the perfect programme of workshops for your event!
CSI: Maths: Combining criminal mysteries and problem-solving, CSI: Maths is one of our most popular ranges – offering children opportunities to apply their skills in, and understanding of shape and measurement in a unique environment.
Family Maths: Mathematical fun for all the family! Taking a experiential approach, our immersive Family Maths workshops uncover the meaning and importance of the three keystones of the Curriculum: fluency, reasoning and problem solving.
CSI Reading Skills: Young people who tell us they don’t like “reading” are always amazed when they realise quite how much skillfull reading they’ve accomplished by the end of this fun and busy workshop.
Soundscape Poetry: Realising the power of “sound”, children and young people will design and perform contrasting soundscapes on a text or theme of your choice – then be guided through a structure that will help them create poems that tell both individual and collective stories.
Journeys into Space: exploring the features of some of our neighbours in the solar system – and the story of human space exploration …
What a Wonderful World: looking at some of the animal and plant life forms adapted to particular habitats – and the dangers posed to them by human activity.
Innovation and Beyond: Voyage through the seas of discovery and chart the worlds of transport, communication, medicine and more to bring to life through drama and games “seven innovations that have changed the world”! And ask yourself this: what would be number eight?
Growing for Gold: Combatting Climate Change: investigating what climate change “is”, why it is important, what is causing it – and what steps we can all take to combat it.
The Connection: looking at a number of scientists/technologists/inventors/engineers (none of them dead, white men) who have absolutely changed the world – and who should be much better known than they are!
Time for Science: exploring the pivotal role that concepts of time play in scientific understanding, bringing to life the centrality of time in a whole range of science strands – and showing how “time” doesn’t always behave as we might expect!
The Science of Change: gives children the opportunity to explore pivotal people and moments in the ever changing landscape of science, engineering and technology.
