The Electric City

The Electric City brings electricity to life through a mix of drama, games and metaphor. It is available as both a stand-alone workshop and as a whole-school Big Science Day.

Introduction

Rooted in an urban metaphor, The Electric City has been developed to support children in understanding what electricity ‘is’, how we use it, how it can be generated, how its generation and use can impact on climate change – and the structure, function and components of electric circuits.

Workshop FAQs

How many pupils can take part?

The Electric City can accommodate up-to 30 pupils per workshop

What is the format of the day?

We will work with you to plan a timetable, based on the number of classes you would like to take part and the timings of your school day. This workshop can last anywhere from 1-hour to half-a-day.

Are there any technical requirements?

Each working space needs to be equipped with laptop, screen or projector, so pupils can view the supporting PowerPoint throughout.

Where will the workshops take place?

This workshop is active and works best in a school hall. A large classroom with desks and chairs stowed away as far as possible is fine.
